Julia Parris is a multi-disciplined artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Combining the mediums of cut-paper collage and photography, she creates surreal worlds that investigate and interpret themes ranging from subconsciousness to environmental trauma, reimagining their effects both personally and globally.

Parris physically combines seemingly unrelated objects and fragments of printed matter to create new, vivid environments - constructing as a form of meditation. Using the process of tearing and cutting to create different line qualities, the edges of her collages are left loose, curling into organic forms that create depth and movement before each piece is photographed, capturing the physicality of the medium. Hazy and hallucinogenic, these intimate worlds connect layers of symbolism, contemplating themes of mortality and time.
